Soul’s Emancipation
Soul’s life is a rollercoaster of emotional bondage stemming from previous relationships, trauma, and her own choices. After her last relationship, Soul vowed to protect her heart from the trials and tribulations that come with love. That was, until she met the fine, but arrogant Anthony who challenged her perception on what love is and is not. Will Soul take a chance, and free herself from her past relationships and mistakes or will she allow the past to keep her heart and a chance for love in bondage.
“Soul’s Emancipation” is a compelling contemporary urban romance novel, centered on themes of self-liberation, healing, personal growth, and love as the characters confront their past mistakes and fears to find freedom and ultimately, true love.
Meet the Author
Hey y’all hey! My name is Felicia D. Gibbons and I’m so glad you stopped by! I am from Rosser, Texas, home of Wildcat Country. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BA in English, and a Masters of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I am a Finer Woman, and a basketball junkie!
Soul’s Emancipation is my first novel. Some twenty plus years ago, I had the idea of writing a book for my friends. We had just discovered a world of discovered black writers and black genres, and after reading every book we could find in our local library, I said, “Hey guys, I’ll write a book for you to read!” And so it was, the birth of Soul’s Emancipation.
After a frustrating start in the publishing world, I stopped working on getting Soul’s Emancipation published, but my love for writing never went away through poetry works and article submissions.
Thanks to everyone who kept encouraging me along the way and reminded me everything works in God’s timing. I hope you enjoy the story of Soul and Anthony and a few of their friends. Let me know what you think, and which character you would like to see in the next book. Until then….#GodProblems #Revolving Doors #444
First Impressions
Anthony
“Hi, I’m Anthony, and you are?”
“Not interested.”
“Well, ‘not interested,’ it’s very nice to meet you,” he said looking her up and down. “Ms. Not Interested, can I buy you another drink? What are you having?”
Soul swirled the drink around with her straw, “I’m fine thank you.”
“Well, it looks like there’s nothing left in that drink,” he replied pointing to the near empty glass.
Anthony wasn’t quite sure what it was about her but there was something about the woman in front of him. Maybe it was the way she seemed to be trying so hard to ignore him, or maybe it was her stunning beauty. Her skin had a glow that reminded him of a shiny copper penny, and her long braids that stopped just above her butt made him think she had a little fire in her. The way her jeans hugged her ass made him want to pull her into his arms and run his hands up and down every inch of her body. He wasn’t sure, but he knew he had to get her to at least talk to him.
Soul
It wasn’t like the brother wasn’t as fine up close as he was from afar, because he was. Too damn fine, in fact. Smooth, jet-black skin, a shiny bald head, and a beard that made Soul’s thoughts wonder if it would tickle the inside of her thighs, not to mention a body that was definitely to be worshipped. The navy fitted suit looked like it was made specifically for his tall frame. And that smile, my God that smile, could make the projects feel like a mansion. He obviously never missed his dentist appointments. Monica immediately noticed his fraternity letters and a simple initial necklace dangling from the two simple gold chains he wore. Yeah, his middle name had to be fine, or sexy, or Greek God, and based on his confident smile, she could tell he knew it. Too bad for him that after her recent Danny escapade, Monica decided to take a break not just from fine men, but all men. The games they played and the lies they mastered were enough to make her scream.
